The Story of Longlands

Bella and her family moved to North Devon from Strawberry Hill, Twickenham in August 2011. They had been searching for a property within 10 miles of Woolacombe that had land for a campsite, plus a view of the sea. They found Longlands in April 2011. Not only did it have land and fantastic views, but also a lake, stream and woods.

Soon after viewing the property they submitted a letter of enquiry to the local planning department with their plans and were told that they would never be permitted to have a “campsite” within the North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Unfazed, they purchased the property and moved anyway!

In December 2011 they submitted a second planning enquiry with more details of their plans and received another negative response. Only slightly perturbed, they regrouped with a planning lawyer, highways consultant and planning consultant and together worked to overcome each of grounds of rejection cited by the planners.

Their final planning application was submitted in April 2012, and two months later they were granted planning permission for five luxury Safari lodges. They immediately set to work to receive their first guests at the end of July and have not looked back since!
